Software Engineer II (Full Stack) –  ReactJS / Kotlin / Mongo DB

Location: Poland (Remote, Hybrid, Office based)

Position Summary:

The role of Software Engineer II (Full Stack) is responsible for the development, delivery, documentation, and technical support of software applications built with the ReactJS / Kotlin / Mongo DB for Bentley clients, reporting to the Software Development Manager.

 

Developing applications and delivering an architecture to support the delivery of Digital Twins is a key component of our service to support asset owning clients, deliver, operate and optimise their assets. 

 

The Software Engineer II will primarily work on the DataConnect product, but in the future potentially on a wider set of software initiatives developing software/solutions across the Bentley solution/application portfolio using an Agile delivery methodology.

DataConnect is a new data aggregation, validation and visualisation product utilising mapping of geo-located data as well as integration and visualisation of data within Bentley iModels.

 

Solid experience in the relevant technology stack is a must, combined with the ability to work closely with QA and product team members on solutions.

 

This is an opportunity to join an enthusiastic, distributed Agile development team with a demanding backlog of required functionality, tasked with producing new, high quality and secure software. Writing unit tests with code is a must, as is supporting QA creation of automated acceptance tests.

The day-to-day agenda follows an Agile / SCRUM style process with daily standup calls and sprint planning, sprint review and retrospective calls, around the core software development activities. The role requires very close work with the product and QA team during Story development, delivering together, releasing production software every 3-week sprint. 

Your Day-to-Day:

• Agile Software Development 

• Help define user stories, define a coherent design and translate these into robust functional applications. 

• Coding in Typescript/Javascript/React (front end) and Kotlin (back end)

• Utilisation of Mongo DB for data persistence.

• Design, build, implement, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code. 

• Ensure all code is unit tested, clean, reusable, maintainable and readable and aligned with the design / patterns put in place by the Lead Developer 

• Consider application security during code development and proactively identify and raise wider security questions regarding the software.

• Give constructive feedback via pull-request reviews of other team members’ code. 

• Ensure the best possible performance, scalability, and responsiveness of applications. 

• Document design / development work where appropriate to assist the team, users and product support. 

• Estimate time to complete work items and track progress to ensure the timely completion of work items to meet the needs of the programme. 

• Escalate issues as appropriate. 

• Work closely with QA to complete and deliver each Story in the team sprints. 

• Work closely with product management to refine and clarify Stories 

• Support and mentor more junior members of the team. 

• Ensure software developed aligns with the code and branching strategy and is consistent with designs in place and the wider process.

What You Bring to The Team:

• Degree and / or Higher National qualifications related to Computer Science/Software Engineering or related field 

• At least 3+ years commercial knowledge and experience in React-based web development. 

• Solid front-end development experience with:

  • Typescript

  • ReactJS

  • React Query

  • Vite / Vitest

  • HTML+CSS

• Solid back-end development experience with:

  • Kotlin

  • Sprint Boot

  • Spring Data

  • Mongo DB

  • Gradle

• Solid commercial level understanding of building web-based applications.

• Experience with Full Software Development Life Cycle practices and Agile methodologies and processes such as Scrum and Kanban.

• Knowledge of design patterns, Object-Orientation, TDD, BDD and Unit testing frameworks. 

• Experience of involvement with Solution Architecture or Systems/Technical architecture, and experience in systems integration/client solution implementation.

• Experience building Microservices + OAuth + OIDC

• Proficiency in developing REST based applications (JSON and XML).  

• Experience of designing solutions in an Azure Cloud environment with Azure Service Bus and Storage Accounts. 

• Experience of designing solutions with Kubernetes.  

• Experience with source control management (Git) and branching and version strategies.
