Description:
I’m looking for a highly knowledgeable and resourceful individual who understands secure and reliable communication methods with Iran—especially when traditional channels are down (e.g. no WhatsApp, no mobile data, unstable SMS, and no working VPNs).
Background:
My parents live in Tehran. During high-tension events (military escalations, civil unrest, or government-imposed blackouts), communications are intermittent or entirely cut off. I’ve already tried common tools like Google Voice, Rebtel, Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal—but during a true blackout, none of them work consistently. I need someone who understands the technical, legal, and practical limitations of communicating with people inside Iran and can advise me on real alternatives that still work.
Your Role:
-
Advise me on non-traditional communication methods that work even when VoIP, mobile data, and VPNs are blocked.
-
Help me set up or connect to tools like satellite messaging, SIP trunking, GSM roaming SIMs, PBX systems, dark web channels, or relay-based systems.
-
Provide step-by-step instructions for both me (in the U.S.) and my parents (limited tech skills, in Iran) to implement.
-
Recommend any hardware (satellite devices, phones, dual-SIM setups) or apps that may increase chances of contact.
-
Bonus: If you’re Iranian or have worked in Iran-specific digital security or communication, I want to hear from you.
Skills Needed:
-
Deep familiarity with Iran’s internet censorship infrastructure
-
Experience with VoIP, VPNs, SIP, or satellite communication
-
Clear communicator – must be able to explain tech to non-techies
-
Ideally someone who can provide Farsi instructions or help translate materials for my family
Deliverables:
-
A simple, redundant communications strategy that allows at least one reliable method of reaching my parents during a blackout.
-
Instructions on how to implement it fast — both online and offline copies.
-
Ongoing support for tuning the setup if needed.
This is not a casual gig. I need real, actionable help to prepare for worst-case scenarios. If you’ve helped others stay connected in countries with heavy censorship (Iran, China, Russia, etc.), you might be perfect for this.
Please apply with a short explanation of your experience and how you’d approach the problem.
