Role Description

The Microsoft Exchange/Messaging Engineer supports the Peace Corps in Washington, DC. As part of the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), this position focuses on providing expert level development, operations and maintenance, engineering and architecture design, integration, and testing services for the Peace Corps Exchange and Messaging systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft-based infrastructure design and development
  • Messaging and directory services best practices
  • Advanced knowledge of systems administration, operations, and management
  • Expert-level experience planning, documenting, installing, managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting high-availability Exchange Server 2016 and 2019 environments
  • Configuration of Microsoft Enterprise Exchange in support of Peace Corps users across multiple AD domains

This position is remote to the Washington, DC area.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • At least six (6) years of experience supporting, designing, migrating, troubleshooting, and optimizing Microsoft Exchange and related enterprise services
  • 6-8 years of technical experience with installation, upgrades and maintenance of various server and network support systems preferred
  • At least 6-8 years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 environments
  • Thorough working knowledge of Windows Server 2019 and 2022
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot server performance issues using native Windows Server tools and utilities
  • Strong experience with Exchange 2019, planning, deploying, and migration
  • Experience with PowerShell commands needed to manage Active Directory features, roles, mailboxes, performance, and troubleshooting
  • Extensive knowledge of AD architecture – databases and logs, mail routing, and protocol support

Requirements

  • Must be able to maintain a Peace Corp Clearance for access to facilities, equipment and property
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Exchange Server, Intune, or Azure)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports the overall health of technologies associated with the Enterprise Messaging environment
  • Provides Microsoft Enterprise Exchange operational configuration management support
  • Provides Cisco IronPort technical expertise in the management, maintenance, and problem resolution
  • Monitors the health of Messaging systems with provided event management tools
  • Implements monitoring tools thresholds and conducts proactive event remediation
  • Ensures that any latency is identified and mitigated/remediated upon discovery in accordance with required response times
  • Identifies and troubleshoots server performance issues using native Windows Server tools and utilities
  • Monitors availability of system upgrades
  • Creates and maintains knowledge base, configuration, and support documentation
  • Creates documentation, diagrams, and flowcharts detailing automation and orchestration processes
  • Ensures the stability and integrity of Active Directory, MS Exchange 2013/2016, MS Skype, and other MS technologies
  • Maintains Active Directory/Exchange management/administration
  • Supports and monitors Active Directory replication in multi-site environment
  • Manages Group Policy; Manages Active Directory trusts
  • Conducts Exchange and Active Directory scripting and PowerShell
  • Manages and maintains Active Directory and Exchange backup and disaster recovery
